The Point of the Story — You're Invited!
The whole point of these bits of news is that you're invited to share your stories and photos on this page. Did the reunion and/or this website generate any reconnections or new connections? Who have you gotten together with in recent years? What have you been up to? With whom would you like to reconnect (check it out: we've added a couple of people to our "Where Are They Now" page since the reunions.) And, you're invited to join us. If you're living within reasonable distant from Manhattan, or if you're further out of town and expect to be in the Big Apple. Join us for one of our lunches, or we'll gather whomever is available to plan a special visit convenient for you. This goes for you guys, too (a couple of you have dropped in). We'd love to see you. What emerged from the planning of the 50-year reunion was a committee of women who decided to continue getting together. The "Midwood'61 Ladies Who Lunch" have been meeting every two months— a core group, along with some drop-ins, like Jane (Olin) Altschuler and Bev (Hyman) Friedman), who join us when they're in town.
The surprise and wonder of it all is that most of us had not been close friends in high school (a couple of us hadn't known one another at all). In truth, the only thing that we really had in common was having been there at the same time. And that was enough. Having happily connected or reconnected, we've been adding members and guests since 2011. We have over a dozen in the core group, from Jersey, Long Island, Brooklyn, Westchester, and Manhattan. Out-of-town alumni – from Connecticut to California — give us notice that they’re coming to New York and we arrange a get-together. Here are photos from two recent get-togethers. Bella Tillis, who arrived at Midwood 16 years before we did, and left 10 years after we did, left her mark throughout the New York City school system, and in thousands of hearts of Midwood students for 30 years. We proved it at our 50-year reunion when we remembered the words to the Sing songs we created under her effervescent guiding hand. In so many ways she was the unifying spirit of Midwood.
A Bella Tillis Memorial Fund has been established at Midwood, and you can contribute to it. Tax-deductible checks can be sent to the Alumni Association, indicating that they are specifically and ONLY for the Bella Tillis Fund.
